Why KDU is Important for Kalbe

Globalization and the scarcity of digital resources have contributed to the need to implement and meet higher customer expectations while reducing the workload and resource depletion. This situation initiated Industry 4.0, the foundation of which is the implementation and dissemination of modern digital technologies related to Software + ABCD-X: AI, Blockchain, Cloud, Data and X (IoT, Robotic, Metaverse, Quantum Computing). Technologies are here to contribute many improvements in terms of increased efficiency, decision-making, as well as the creation and maintaining of competitive advantages. KDU is critically important to explore and exploit state of the art of ABCD-X technologies in all Kalbe companies.

Rapid changes in the field of ABCD-X technologies indicate that with the growth of their importance and implementation in any organizations, changes need to be introduced in the management teams, particularly in the context of corporate-wide learning processes that form the basis for making knowledge-based decisions.
The period of digital transformation that we are experiencing in Kalbe, called Industry 4.0, has marked a series of accelerated changes in the way we relate as a society, requiring constant adaptation and new knowledge on the part of companies and professionals. There is strong relationship between the corporate learning culture and capability to work productivity, efficiency, and innovation capability in Industry 4.0. Among the facts, the cultural aspects are strongly related to corporate learning, which dimensions of culture are directly related to digital talent hiring, onboarding, work engagement, and what are their impact on the turnover rate and attrition. In Kalbe, Corporate HR (CHR) and Corporate Digital Technology (CDT) setup KDU (Kalbe Digital University) to inspire a group-wide cultural-shift to be "a learning organization" in digital era.

What is KDU Plan?

As part of a wider plan to digitize Indonesia, the Government of Indonesia (GOI) has continuously supported digital talent development programs as one of the keys to digital transformation. To that end, the Communications and Information Ministry is offering the 2021 Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS), a stimulus program to train new digitally-minded Indonesian talents, which started in 2018. Digital talent is one of the keys to a digital transformation. DTS is one of the programs supporting President instructions on the national digital transformation, which has a target of 9 million highly skilled digital talents by 2030.

Government of Indonesia (GOI) through Ministry of Education (MOE) has already launched MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) program. MBKM is designed to provide freedom for University students in choosing their specialities after graduation. Students in University can take MBKM program to learn from industry internship within 6 to 12 months period.

The main challenge in MBKM program is how to engage top tier STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology, Mathematic) Universities (UI, ITB, ITS, UGM) that have top digital talents to collaborate with Kalbe group. Those Universities required proper science and technology educations with well-defined curriculums to allow their students for 6-12 months internship program in Kalbe. Many corporations are competing to utilize this program, however they have to provide proper curriculum for students to learn and get 20-40 credits, hence many failed.

KDU implementation in 2023 already by Kalbe CHR and CDT. All students will have to complete a FCP learning journey to learn the fundamental, conceptual and practical aspects of each selected engineering role (SWE, DE, DS, AIE). Each roles will have specific curriculum based on global standards.
